Do not plug heat tape into indoor receptacles via window gaps. That violates cord-use rules and eliminates GFCI at the source. All terminations belong in weatherproof boxes with proper strain relief.

Energy Use and Controls

Heat tape running 24/7 through winter increases ComEd bills. Thermostats that energize near 38 degrees F and controllers with moisture sensors reduce runtime. We wire controls during installation so you are not climbing ladders to flip breakers monthly.
