Rogers Park – The Beginning
Rogers Park was first established as a stagecoach stop in 1809. The area began to grow as more people headed west, and by 1878, the town officially incorporated under the name Rogers Park after one of the founding settlers in the area. In 1878, the city had 200 residents and was a train stop for the Chicago Northwestern Railway.
Rogers Park – Present Day
A lot has changed in Rogers Park since 1878. The city continued to grow rapidly, and when another train began to stop in the area, Rogers Park flourished. The city was officially annexed into Chicago in 1895 as part of the 49th Ward. It is very common for area residents to refer to this town as the 49th Ward or by the city name to this day.
