History of Montclare
Montclare was first established in the early 1830s as a private farm for William Sayre. He officially purchased the land in 1836 and soon after married the daughter of another settler to the area. As the area began to grow, a train station was constructed on his property, and the area became known as Montclare.
Montclare Today
Montclare has gone through many development phases. It was not until 1912, when the Grand Avenue streetcar extended its service to this area, that the town began to experience growth. The new streetcar station made this area ripe for development with those working in the downtown Chicago area.
The town has grown in phases since then, with a current population of about 12,000 people. The city has retained a suburban feel since it became a part of Chicago, and to this day, you feel the small-town charm of the area, even though you are less than 20 miles from the center of Chicago.
